In term 3 Karioi students have been participating in the Primary Enterprise Programme (PrEP). This programme is based on economics and basically students develop/create their own business's or ventures. They must complete CV's, business plans, minutes of meetings, business cards etc. We had 5 catergories the students could choose from e.g. Horticulture, Entertainment, Arts and Crafts, Service and of course FOOD!. At our mini market day, the school community had an opportunity to have a look at some samples of products that are going to be on offer at our MARKET day. This gives the Ventures time to reflect, review and if necessary re-develop their products based on market research and feedback. Here is a collage completed by Rm 10 students from photos on the Mini market day.
Tiki Taiaha Logo
This is our beautiful mural in the foyer of Rooms 10 and 11. It represents our two e-Learning classes, Year 7 Tikis and Year 8 Taiaha. The words are our School values. The blue and red respectively represent our Maunga Karioi (Rm 10) and Pirongia (Rm 11). It was painted by Matua Brady Walker, a young and talented self taught artist who translated our vision onto canvas - ATAAHUA!

Casey Williams
Today we were really fortunate to host the current Silver Ferns Captain "Casey Williams" at our school. Casey spent some time in Room 10 where she was interviewed by our resident film crew (Anjali and Sophie) and then spent valuable time on the netball courts with some of our netballers. She inspired, motivated and encouraged the girls right throughout the session. The drills were energy packed, engaging and hopefully will transfer onto the netball courts this coming Saturday - thanks for being an awesome role model Casey!!!!

Te Wiki o Te Reo Maori
After going through extensive auditions, Room 10 now has its very own film crew, they are Sophie (Camera) Lily (Director) and Anjali (Interviewer). During the course of Te Wiki o Te Reo Maori, the film crew gathered teachers from around the school to interview. What followed were some interesting and hilarious snipets that we are keen to share through this forum. A big Kia ora to our awesome teachers who 'volunteered' to come to Room 10 and answer some Patai from the girls.
Te Wiki o Te Reo Maori
Last week our school celebrated Te Wiki o Te Reo Maori. Highlights for students were the daily "Korero Mai" announcements from Matua Heta, daily lunchtime activities and the use of Kupu in and around our Kura. Room 10 students were enthralled with the musical talents of Adam Whauwhau who visited our classroom. He spoke to the students about keeping alive the Maori language and tikanga and recounting some interesting stories about Maori place names. He then concluded with a Waiata, his guitar playing was legendary - tu meke (awesome) Matua Adam! Room 10's film crew captured one of the Waiata, titiro mai! (have a look)

Karioi Team Chant
Karioi classes have been developing chants for our team to deliver at inter maunga (mountain) events, this is just one example of the excellent chants that we are looking at adopting. The chant was created for Karioi by Whaea Mana in Rm 1 (who incidentally is the "Queen of Chants"), here is her class giving a demo...Nga mihi nu nui Whaea Mana!
